There are two ways to help prevent your dog from being lost or stolen and that would be to either have the dog's ear tattooed or have the dog microchipped (some breeders do sell their puppies already chipped). Having your dog microchipped is a very safe and effective way to ensure your dog’s safety. You will also need a microchip in place if you wish to travel abroad with your pet. As you may be aware, it is actually a legal requirement for your dog to have a tag on its collar with its details on.
Petlog run the microchipping 15 digit system and have all the chipped animals logged onto their system with full details. A microchip is a very small device that is implanted between the animal’s shoulder blades which, when scanned, will show up as a 15 digit number. This 15 digit number is your pet’s own personal identification number. If your pet should become lost, when found, it will be scanned and Petlog will be contacted so that they can immediately trace the name, address and contact details of the dog and notify its owners.
Implanting the microchip is a very quick and usually pain-free process. I am able to microchip dogs, cats and ferrets, whilst being fully qualified and insured. My certificates are available for viewing upon request.
